Andrew M.'s Story
About two weeks after graduating BHS, I entered Mass Maritime Academy.
I graduated there in 1965 and immediately went to sea.
My first stint at sea lasted 13 months and after a vacation I returned and made a number of trips on various vessels (including "Nam").
However, after a short stint in a lifeboat in the North Pacific in December, I decided to try something else for a while and moved to NYC where I became a "Guarantee Engineer" for a Naval Archetect (sp?..close enough) testing and acting as a world wide rep for shipboard stabilizers LOtsa travel.

ecided to get back to using my license, so went to Cape Cod and started working at Hy-line where I stayed until 1978 (married 1975).
After the winter of 78, I'd had it with Mass winters....went back to sea.
While gone (7 mos), my wife flew to Ca. and bought a house.
Fro 78 to 92 I sailed on various tankers, slowly moving up and sailing as Master from 88-92.
In 1992 I became a harbor pilot at Port Hueneme, Ca and a t present am President of the Pilot Assoc (VBG...2 of us) and Chairman of the Harbor Safety Committee.
I'll retire when I stop having fun.....
